Earth, Wind and Rider ~ Words From the Flock

Words From the Flock
"I recently bought a wool jersey from Seven Cycles. I have to tell you that this is the most comfortable article of clothing I own. It is truly really amazing. It is made by a company called 'Earth, Wind and Rider...'

With your store's attention to quality and customers who appreciate and pay for the unique, I think there is some synergy with this company."

"After years of commuter, recreational and race cycling, I concluded that wool was simply the most sensible fabric the sport. Prior to the renewed interest in wool jerseys I made do with wool sweaters from Autumn through spring. When the cycling garment industry rediscovered a market for wool jerseys some years back I began buying what was available. When EWR's ad appeared in 'Dirt Rag,' I took a look at the website and placed an order. Upon receiving the jersey I found it to be superior in fit, function, and feel to anything that I had previously purchased or tried to make do with. 'Good things come to those who wait.' I only wish these jerseys had been around earlier.

P.S. If you read the company's mission and overall philosopy, you'll probably feel even better about your purchase.

This is me sporting my NEMBA jersey by you guys in the 90degree heat in North Carolina in October(yeah, 90 in october is for real). I love my jersey so much that it is actually the only jersey i've ridden in in over a year...in fact my riding group gives me hell about that! Although they all wear wool now too.

Thanks,
Mert

I bought my first wool jersey last year from Earth, Wind & Rider last year.  It was exactly what I expected, soft, not scratchy.  When I bike to work in the cool mornings, this jersey's warm When I bike home at the end of the day it breathes well so I don't overheat in the warmer weather.  It doesn't pick up odors like my synthetic jerseys that must be washed after each wearing.

After the first hand washing, some stitching came loose on the zipper.  I e-mailed to EWNR and got a reply in less than a day.  They asked which style and size and sent out a replacement the same day.  It arrived at my house before I had boxed up and returned the old one.  I was pleasantly amazed at the quick personal service, absent from most other companies I've dealt with!

Great. comfortable jersey and a great company for personal attention and customer service.  I have only the highest recommendations for this company at the great wool jersey I enjoy.

Sincerely,
Jim Bukstein

ok here is my ewnr story...
Last Feburary, my friend Erik had just quit his job and was thinking about his next incarnation career wise... He had some time and was thinking about a cross country bike trip. He invited me over for dinner and kind of threw it out there... well I bit. I agreed to ride with him cross country on our bicycles... The crazy part about that was I didn't even own a bike and any related equipment. So I started doing all sorts of research... I picked my bike and ordered it and after reading all sorts of data decided on Wool for my jerseys. I have skin cancer and I wanted something that would cover my skin and hold up to several days of riding between washings and showers...
So after several attempts at finding suitable wool jerseys... I found EWNR. I called and asked all sorts of questions like, " do I need long sleeve and short?", "How will wool hold up?" etc... well Chris from EWNR was amazing... we talked through all the technical aspects of wool and chose the jersey for me! I ordered two long sleeve jerseys and they threw in a pair of socks as a gift... During our discussion about the socks they told me that they would be my favorite socks and how they would wear them days at a time... without washing... lol I guess you had to be there for the discussion, but for a man on a cross country trip... this was important.
Well in a few days the jerseys arrived. They were amazingly soft and fit like they were knit for me... I washed them as per the instructions and let them dry flat... As I was putting them away in my bag, I noticed a small hole on one of them and was crushed... I was leaving in less than 15 days and I was very concerned that I had made a mistake. I e-mailed Chris with my concerns and my phone number... within moments Chris called and offered to ship me a new one fed-ex and sent along a return envelope to return the damaged jersey... I don't know if this is standard procedure, but I was so greatful as I had flashes that I was going to have to deal with riding with only one jersey or buying something else...
Needless to say... those wool jerseys held up like champs... I was comfortable in all weather... from days in the teens to tempuratures in the hundreds... I was always comfortable... people were always saying arn't you hot? The wool kept me cool. It was amazing!
oh and about those socks... It took us 70 days to ride from San Fransisco to Yorktown Virginia and I wore that one pair every day of the trip... yes I washed them out almost every night I could. They held their shape and never smelled dirty... even after ten hours on a bike... I hope that some day they start selling them as they were winners too...
I have attached pictures for you in my jersey and my socks, the first from the first day leaving San Fran and the second on the day before I rode into Yorktown...
thank you!

My son Nick graduated from high school this June, and we celebrated by taking a father-son car trip from Maryland to Nova Scotia, because it's there and because we had never been in the Atlantic time zone before.  One fine, cool, misty morning on the North shore of the Bay of Fundy, I started off with my long-sleeve EWR Old School black/natural jersey, only to shed it because the day quickly grew warm and I favored short sleeves.  I had just put my t-shirt on and turned around, when I saw Nick walking off with my EWR jersey!  As I thought back over the past several days, I realized that the looks that he had been giving me were not those of filial affection, but were instead envious glances at the jersey.  The below pix show Nick with his prize and me exhausted after riding the Fundy Trail in my plastic t-shirt.   He rode the distance in the wool jersey, and was fine.  Final score: Youth 1, Geezer 0.

Keep up the good work.  Your jerseys look and feel great.

I have a EWNR sourced Seven Jersey that I love.  I wear both to work and on the bike.  Beautiful and comfortable.  I get compliments on it everyday.

Last Christmas I was in a bind to a get a last minute gift for my girlfriend.  Living in Boston I was very lucky.  After calling you guys up at the last minute (a day or two before Xmas, possibly even Christmas Eve) I was able to swing by the warehouse and pick up a beautiful red jersey for my lady.  Thanks for hooking me up!

Simon.

After seeing you at Interbike three years ago, I kept your business card. When my dad started biking to work, and wanted to bike in the winter, I knew the perfect gift for him. I got him one of your awesome long-sleeved jerseys and he wears it whenever the weather is cool enough in Houston, Texas where he lives. Here he is proudly showing off his awesome sweater.

This picture was taken on a cold November evening in a serious mountain bike competitions in Knoxville, TN. The Brew Ride is an annual, night-time adventure race at Haw Ridge, in which the riders navigate to 4 checkpoints and perform stupid human tricks and drink lots of beer! This picture is from a blindfolded hill climb.
The EWnR wool jersey kept me warm, even though it was soaked in beer from chugging through a rusty handlebar.

I had received an EWNR jersey for my birthday earlier this year. The style that had been picked wasn't my favorite of those available and so I sent an email asking if I could exchange it. I was told it would be no problem, and to save on the hassle of shipping back and forth, I was even invited to stop by their offices and do the swap there myself. So I did, met the staff and picked up my EWNR jersey. Now I can't wait for fall to be here so I can get back to wearing it!

I am sending the following story and picture,  I hope you will find it as well as I have found your merino wool jersey's.

Early one Sunday afternoon in the spring, a friend called me up and asked if I could help him with a bike race.  He needed people to sit at different spots around Manhattan.  They're called checkpoints, racers must stop at each assigned checkpoint in order to complete the entire race.  Whoever can do this fastest is the winner.  I told him I'd be glad to help and rode up to Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem, where the racers and organizers were gathering. I was first assigned to a checkpoint on Randall's Island, a tiny landmass nestled between the Bronx, Long Island, and Manhattan.  I knew Randall's Island well, having photographed the two massive bridges that pass over it, the Triboro and the Hell Gate Bridge.  I think it is these two connective structures that give Randall's Island its distinctive sense of transience. It is hard to feel at rest there with so much movement going on around you.  Aside from feeling neither here nor there on the island, the island houses the city's largest mental health asylum on the island's western side.  I've always feared being locked up, so this didn't ease my nerves.  I wasn't too disappointed when one of the race organizers called me up and told me that he would have to reassign me to another checkpoint due to a lack of volunteers.  Except that he was sending me to Highbridge Park.

Highbridge is at the northern tip of Manhattan Island, where the Harlem River separates Manhattan from the Bronx.  At the turn of the 20th century it was a destination.  Two major attractions existed in the area at the time, a horse raceway and Highbridge.  Highbridge was finished in 1848 and is the oldest surviving bridge connecting Manhattan.  The raceway later became part of the Harlam River Drive highway, and the bridge was closed to foot traffic during the 1970s when the area entered hard times.  So here I was, in Highbridge park, and all I wanted to do was leave.  Don't get me wrong, I can enjoy the character found in urban decay, but this place was scary.  Wrought iron fences unhinged from their concrete foundations connected stairways overgrown with foliage.  Sinkholes three feet in diameter pockmarked the ground.  Broken bottles and glass were scattered about, graffiti decorates every reachable wall.  And there is no one around.  As the first racers arrived, trying to catch their breath, one of them muttered, "what is the fastest way out of here?"  I replied, "the way you came."  And that was down the set of stairs overgrown with plantlife and trash, followed by a short sprint with cars speeding past you on the Harlem River Drive.  He didn't believe me and decided to try his luck with the stairway going up the heights instead.  More racers arrived, among them a friend who took my picture as his group decided which route to take to the next checkpoint.  My job was done as the last racer clipped in and raced to the next checkpoint.  I took one last glance around the park, zipped up my long sleeve Earth Wind & Rider jersey, and headed to the finish line.

Regards,

John Sanderson

We've been riding the Great Mass Getaway for two years wearing the snappy jersey you see here, and we sure get lots of comments on them.  It's great to stand-out in the crowd of all those other flashy techno jerseys with such an understated design, and be more comfortable too!

Thanks!
-Jason.
